Abstract

The growing number of web search engines has resulted in an important production of scientific literature related with the evaluation of these systems, which can be defined as disperse, sporadic and very heterogeneous. This dispersion derives from the occasional presence of these authors in this line of research, which they use to leave out before; the absence of periodicity is highly associated with the previous feature and affects negatively to the quality of this these evaluations; finally, the heterogeneous methodology implies a small level of normalization in establishing the set of appropriate for deploying these processes of evaluation. So, it seems important studying the state of the art with the goal of detecting the possible failures and designing proposals to solve them. (Author)
