This paper analyzes the methodologies used by the university library administrators of the higher education institutions in the state of São Paulo (Brasil) to identify the new information needs of their clients and establishing priorities in attending them, and inquires how these processes affect the planning activities of the libraries. A survey was send to all the library administrators of the State’s public universities. Most of the managers prefer to obtain information from the users through personal contact, and consider that the main factors to determine priorities are the client typology and the availability of financial resources.Downloads
