From a case study of an engineering company, it is showed how library and archival techniques can be useful to implement a knowledge management in small and midsize firms. The professional practice, the relevant information science theory and the available international standards are discussed. Some of the reviewed methodologies and techniques are useful tools to start a knowledge management project. It is concluded that a successful knowledge management project can benefit from a methodology that, in a first stage, allows a detailed description of the organization activities and a deep understanding of the data, information and documentation used by the company.Downloads
