Thesauri have progressively adapted to digital environments, demonstrating their capacity for integration with Semantic Web technologies. However, the convergence of thesauri and Semantic Web is not as straightforward as it might seem. This paper analyses and contrasts the constructs and integrity rules of ISO 25964 and SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System). The SKOS representations of the thesauri AGROVOC, EuroVoc and Unesco are also examined in order to study the solutions implemented. Finally, the perceived challenges are addressed, in particular the integration of thesauri with Linked Data and the development of ontologies.
