The categories of information about museum objects are represented on the web through metadata, and it is in the practice of museum documentation that these aspects will or won’t appear as facilitators of access and understanding of the object by user. Among various aspects to describe about the museum object (such as authorship, material, iconography, and others), the focus of this research is on the "bibliography" metadata, since this type of reference links the object with other information, expanding, deepening or reaffirming its original context. The objective of this research is to verify which and how art museums use "bibliographic" metadata in the set of descriptive elements of the museum objects that make up their collections. The results indicate that of 34 museums analyzed from different parts of the world, 14 include a bibliography and 20 do not have any type of reference. In addition, 28 museums do not contain any other link with documentary materials and only 6 maintain and consider the inclusion of complementary bibliography important.
