Abstract

The background of the current ethical code of the Cuban Association of Librarians is discussed, and its different aspects are analyzed with a focus on its connections with other relevant international regulations: the protection of confidentiality, maintaining high professional standards, giving priority to the readers’ interests, the right of access to documents and their contents without restrictions, and the provision of complete, objective and impartial information.

Emilio Setién Quesada, Asociación Cubana de Bibliotecarios, Biblioteca Nacional “José Martí”, España

Dr. en Ciencias de la Información. Profesor Titular de Bibliotecología y Ciencia de la Información en la Universidad de La Habana. Trabajó en la Biblioteca Nacional José Martí como Investigador Titular y Jefe de su Departamento de Investigaciones. Actuó como Investigador visitante del Centro Universitario de Investigaciones Bibliotecológicas de la UNAM. Ha ofrecido cursos y seminarios en diversos países. Tiene publicados múltiples obras y ha sido miembro de Comités permanentes de IFLA. Ha recibido diversas condecoraciones. Es miembro del Tribunal Permanente para el otorgamiento del grado científico de Dr. en Ciencias de la Información en Cuba. Participó y se mantiene participando en diversos eventos profesionales nacionales e internacionales. En la actualidad asesora a la Subdirección Metodolótica de la Biblioteca Nacional de Cuba José Martí y es miembro del Ejecutivo Nacional de la Asociación Cubana de Bibliotecarios.
