Document generation and retrieval in organizations is done mainly in ‘offimatic’ environments. An informational model for ‘offimatics’ (office informatics) is proposed, that overcomes the limits of current archival and retrieval systems. This ‘informational’ paradigm describes how to understand document generation, archiving and retrieval functions and, thereafter, communicative, cooperative and digitization processes. From this point of view, the computer may be seen as a sophisticated informational machine, a tool oriented for knowledge workers, that allows the design of corporate information systems and the effective management of corporate knowledgeDownloads
