Digital Documentation in mass media and advertising: analysis and experiences

Abstract

The research trends in mass media information and documentation in the last decade are reviewed while presenting the articles published in the number 2 of the volume 11 of Scire (Jul.-Dec. 2005), which is a monograph on mass media information and documentation. In the studied period, information science researchers have focused on the impact of the digital revolution on mass media and the information and documentation activities that are necessary to achieve their aims. Those changes include a new professional profile; the consolidation of the information professional role in mass media; the advent of digital editions and, thereafter, mass media portals with new information-based services; the multiplication of rapidly available information sources for creating, contextualizing and explaining news; the consolidation of new fields of practice and research for information professionals and scientists, such as advertising, public relations and audiovisual creation; the open-hearted widening of the information science theory beyond text and scientific and professional writing towards audiovisual, graphic and narrative materials; and the opening to the multidisciplinary world of digital information analysis. So, this decade has been decisive for the development of information science in general and of their applications in mass media information and documentation in particular
