The virtual reference service (SRV) refers to ways of providing reference service and information through information technology, and can bring a number of benefits to its participants. Being a new technology, there are many resources that can be explored for the benefit of the university libraries and their users. in this direction, this study intends to apply the methodology of SWOT analysis to a university library site with the intention of building parameters that may subsequently contribute to the development of an analytical model of the virtual reference service. It was verified that the SRV is an opportunity to increase customer satisfaction and the interaction of university libraries with their users. Therefore, university libraries should explore the potential of these services, and invest in a mediation and learning interface.
