Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify and examine the documentary series related to the governmental function in the Order of Alcántara through the documentation kept in the Ecclesiastical Archives of Mérida-Badajoz, which today are the custodians of the documentation generated by the extinct order (15th-19th centuries). For this purpose, both the series related to the internal government of the Order and those about its relation with civil, military and ecclesiastical entities have been exhaustively analyzed. The result of this analysis allow us to know the governmental processes undertaken by the Order in Extremadura exhaustively and offer researchers possible lines of investigation based on the analysis of the aforementioned documentation.

Sonia López Ortiz, Universidad de Extremadura

Graduada en Información y Documentación por la Universidad de Extremadura. En la actualidad trabaja en los Archivos Eclesiásticos de Mérida-Badajoz y pertenece al Grupo de Investigación Ardopa de la Universidad de Extremadura colaborando en sus proyectos e investigaciones.

Guadalupe Pérez Ortiz, Archivos Eclesiásticos de Mérida-Badajoz. Universidad Internacional de La Rioja

Diploma in Library Science and Documentation (2000), Degree in Documentation (2002) and Doctor in Documentation (2006) from the University of Extremadura. He has published various research articles in national and international journals. In his publications he has dealt, among other issues, with different aspects concerning archival classification, the cultural history of archives and historical ecclesiastical documentation. He has worked on the development of various books and on the organization and participation in conferences and exhibitions. She is currently the director of the Library of the San Atón de Baadajoz Seminary, Director of the Ecclesiastical Archives of Mérida-Badajoz, Professor of the CSET of Badajoz attached to the Pontifical University of Salamanca and of the Faculty of Education of the International University of the Rioja.

Agustín Vivas Moreno, Universidad de Extremadura

Professor of documentation at the Faculty of Documentation and Communication Sciences of the University of Extremadura. Degree in Modern History, Diploma in Library Science and Documentation and Doctor in Documentation. He has published multiple books and scientific articles related to the documentary, informational and archival fields.
