This work aims to present a detailed evaluation instrument with the best possible operating conditions for the analysis of academic journals, from the point of view of the research staff. This protocol is based on the identification and operationalization of indicators previously obtained through the heuristic analysis method, a systematic review and expert observation. This work has resulted in a multidimensional characterization instrument composed of 31 indicators–each with its description, examination procedure and examples–articulated in seven major parameters: impact, dissemination, submission process, costs, journal services and commitment to both the European Research Council (ERC) Plan S and the DORA declaration.
